Search Engine Market Share in 2021

Handling over 90 percent of all search queries worldwide, Google is undoubtedly dominating the global search engine market share.

As of June 2021, a whopping 92.6 percent of all search queries conducted across all search engine providers are done through the internet giant. In other words, more than nine out of ten internet users who search for information online do so through Google.

By comparison, its closest rivals, Microsoft’s Bing and Yahoo, are only managing a fraction of Google’s volume. Bing and Yahoo’s market shares currently come in at 2.3 percent and 1.54 percent respectively for a total of less than 5 percent. These search engines are not nearly close enough to challenge Google’s domination.

China’s leading search engine, Baidu, has a market share of 1.28 percent, while Russia’s Yandex comes in at 0.68 percent. Both Baidu and Yandex are some of the world’s top search engines.

With such figures, there is no question that the current search engine market share worldwide is dominated by Google. And Google is also, in fact, seeing quite a similar lead in the United States.

Don’t wait for someone else to do it. Hire yourself and start calling the shots.

US Search Engine Market Share

Chart of US Search Engine Market Share

Google reigns supreme in the US with a similar dominance in the US search engine market share. The only difference comes in a slight fall in market share for Google: it makes up 88.52 percent of the US market share, compared to 92.6 percent worldwide.

Next on the list of the top search engines in the US is Bing, with a market share of 5.63 percent. This is followed by Yahoo with 2.99 percent. While the top three search engines in the US parallel that of the most popular search engines used worldwide, that’s where the similarity ends.

After Google, Bing, and Yahoo, the fourth- and fifth-most used search engines in the US are DuckDuckGo at 2.42 percent and Baidu at 0.12 percent.

Google’s dominance in the US search engine market is even more impressive when it comes to search queries carried out on mobile phones, with 94.31 percent of all mobile search queries handled by Google, as opposed to 81.6 percent on desktops and 77.77 percent on tablets.
